If you have adequate lighting near the location for the mirror, there's often no need to spend the extra amount for a lighted vanity mirror. Most non-lighted vanity mirrors are reversible from the magnified side to the non-magnified side, whereas most lighted free-standing makeup mirrors are not reversible.
These mirrors are sometimes called "vanity mirrors." The word "vanity" refers to the placement of the makeup mirror on the bathroom vanity. Or any other vanity, for that matter. Sometimes, as we do here, you'll see them described as "free-standing". Same thing.
